The next day, Los Zetas members drove into the ranch and ordered Don Alejo to surrender, before firing a warning shot when he refused to comply. They also entered the ranch house, partially destroyed by gunfire and grenade blasts, and found the dead body of Don Alejo, who died of gunshot and shrapnel wounds after the Los Zetas retreated.
