Assaf Hefetz (born December 1944) was commissioner of the Israeli police from 1994 until 1997. At that time in his life, he held the Israeli Police Medal of Courage, which he was awarded in 1980 as a reward for his actions during the 1978 Coastal Road massacre. Several terrorists had hijacked a bus and were killing the occupants, as well as other people. Hefetz boarded the bus and opened fire, killing two of the hijackers before being wounded and retreating. The other terrorists were killed shortly after.
