Benson Okuku Bwaku was a guard at the US Embassy in Nairobi who tried to avert the 1998 US Embassy bombings..
On August 7th, 1998, Bwaku was at the gates of the US Embassy in Nairobi, when a car drove up to the gates. The man in the front passenger seat, Mohamed Rashed Daoud Al-Owhali, shouted at him to open the gates. Bwaku refused, but was fired on by Al-Owhali. When he opened the gates, Al-Owhali threw a stun grenade at him and the other guards before jumping out and running away. As Bwaku called for reinforcements, the driver, a man named Azzam, detonated a bomb, killing 213 people including himself and Bwaku.
