When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.
― Billy Graham
William Franklin Graham Jr. (November 7th, 1918 – February 21st, 2018) was an American evangelist and an ordained Southern Baptist minister who became well known internationally after 1949. He has been called one of the most influential preachers of the 20th century, and provided spiritual support to every president from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama.
Although primarily an evangelist, Graham promoted a number of nonreligious causes in his sermons. He also hosted annual "Crusades" from 1947 to 2005 in which he travelled to other countries and preached to live audiences. Graham frequently promoted human rights in his sermons; during a Crusade in South Africa he condemned their racist apartheid system that forced black people into unequal circumstances. Graham was also an opponent of the similar system in America at the time, once inviting Martin Luther King, Jr. to preach alongside him. He was a close personal friend of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who officially ended the racial segregation with the Civil Rights Act.
