African-American Heroes

African Americans, also known as Black Americans or Afro-Americans, are an ethnic group of American citizens with total or partial ancestry from any of the black racial groups of the African continent. The word "African American" describes descendants of enslaved black people from the United States. African Americans, on average, are of West/Central African and European descent, but some also have Native American heritage as well. The term also sometimes includes people of Afro-Carribbean (Jamaican, Haitan, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc.) descent.

With a total of about 45,789,188 or 14.1% of the population as of 2016, African and Black Americans comprise the third largest race and ethnic group in the United States after White Americans and Hispanic and Latino Americans.
