Christopher Brent "Chris" Hixon (February 25th, 1968 - February 14th, 2018) was a Navy veteran, wrestling coach, campus monitor and athletic director. He served in the Gulf War during his naval career, but transferred to the reserves after his children were born. In February 2018, he was shot and killed in a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, while trying to help the victims to escape.

Parkland shooting[]

On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, perpetrated by Nikolas Cruz. Hixon witnessed the attack on a security camera and rushed to the scene of the shooting in his golf cart to assist the students who were in danger.

Hixon arrived at the scene of the attack and began trying to assist the wounded or fleeing students. PEOPLE magazine reported that Hixon successfully saved the lives of several students, although it did not give details. Cruz then shot and killed him. Following the shooting, Hixon received a military funeral.
