Corey Comperatore (June 16, 1974 - July 13, 2024) was an American volunteer firefighter who was killed shielding his family from gunfire during an assassination attempt on former American president Donald Trump.
Comperatore was from the Pennsylvanian community of Sarver, in Buffalo Township, USA. He was married to Helen Comperatore and had a sister and two daughters. A tooling engineer, Comperatore volunteered as a firefighter in Buffalo Township and was reportedly a former chief of the fire department. He was also a Christian and regularly attended church.
On July 13, 2024, Comperatore and his daughters attended a rally by Donald Trump, former president of the United States who was running for re-election that year. The rally took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. During the event, a sniper named Thomas Crooks opened fire on Trump, slightly injuring him but firing shots into the crowd and wounding several people. When Comperatore realised what was happening he used his body to shield his daughters and prevent them from being harmed. Attempting to kill Trump, Crooks shot Comperatore and two other bystanders before being killed by the Secret Service detail protecting the event. An emergency room doctor who was nearby tried to give him CPR and apply pressure to his wound, but Comperatore was already dead.
After the shooting, Trump and many other prominent politicians paid tribute to Comperatore, including sitting president Joe Biden. Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro ordered that all flags at government buildings should be flown at half-mast to mourn his death.
