David Dorn (November 29, 1942 – June 2, 2020) was a former African-American police captain who was murdered during the Floyd Riots of 2020. He was 77 years old.
In the early hours of June 2, 2020, Dorn was shot after responding to a burglar alarm at his friend's pawn shop. Looters had broken in and stolen some TVs, attacking Dorn when he tried to intervene. His death was streamed on Facebook Live, with the body being discovered at around 2 a.m.
Seven people shown both in the Facebook stream and security footage were identified as suspects. Crime Stoppers offered a reward of $56,700 for information leading to an arrest. On June 7, a 24-year-old suspect named Stephan Cannon was arrested for the murder and later sentenced to life without parole. His accomplice, Mark Jackson, received a suspended prison sentence for testifying against Cannon. Four others were charged with offences relating to the robbery of the pawn shop.
