Ferhat Gedik (August 12, 1976 - August 11, 2017) was a Turkish gendarmeria who was killed by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) along with Eren Bülbül in a conflict between the police forces and the PKK in the rural areas of Trabzon's Maçka district. He used his own body as a shield to protect Bülbül and and took 41 bullets to protect him.

Biography[]

Gedik was born in İskenderun district of Hatay. He graduated from a military school. He married with Cemile Gedik and had a son named Alp Koray and a daughter named Kayra.

On August 11, 2017 after the conflict between PKK and police teams in near Vazelon Monastery in Maçka's Köprüyanı district, Eren Bülbül saw the terrorists stealing supplies from a house they entered, informed the team of gendarmerie and police about the situation. Later, while Bülbül was going with the security forces to show the house that the PKK had entered, he died as a result of the attack of the PKK, along with Bülbül. He took 41 bullets to protect Bülbül from the bullets.

Aftermath[]

His father Ahmet Gedik died because of Covid-19. His sister Neriman Gedik and his nephew Emirhan Kaya died on February 6, 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes.

A movie about his life story along with Eren Bülbül's story was released on Bülbül's birthday, January 1, 2022.
