James Madison was the 4th US President and a founding father of The United States who wrote the first drafts of the U.S. Constitution, co-wrote the Federalist Papers and promoted the Bill of Rights.
He was born into a prominent Virginian planter family. He served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates and the Continental Congress during and after the American Revolution.
After the ratification of the Constitution, Madison became an important leader in the US House of Representatives and served as a close adviser to President George Washington.
