Nils Dacke, born in around 1510 in Torsås socken, Småland, Sweden, was a Swedish farmer who lead a rebellion against the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. After coming to power, Gustav Vasa was in debt to the Hansa, and he started to plunder churches of valuables, as well as raising taxes and take a more direct control of the Swedish cattle trade.

After seeing churches plundered by the kings men, Nils Dacke lead a rebellion against the king of Swedish, using guerilla tactics. Initially successful, he managed to get a peace-treaty with the king, that gave the peasants of Sweden more rights. However, the king eventually double-crossed Dacke, and defeated him with hired mercenaries from Germany. Dacke died from a gunshot wound before the king could get to him, but his uncle was punished in his place, tortured to death. Nils Dacke is today remembered as a freedom fighter, who stod up against tyranny.
