Rob Stewart (December 28, 1979- January 31, 2017) was a Canadian Photographer and conservationist who made the documentaries Sharkwater and Sharkwater Extinction. Rob Stewart started making Sharkwater at age 22 by traveling to fifteen countries and filming sharks and the importance of Sharks for the ocean ecosystems and he brought the horrors of shark finning and the poaching of sharks to light. Rob Stewart then released Sharkwater in 2006 and the film changed the opinions about sharks from the public and people convinced governments to protect sharks and stop shark finning and shark fin soup. In 2016, Rob Stewart began his production of Sharkwater Extinction which talks about the sharks that are being hunted and killed by fishermen for unknown reasons. On January 31, 2017, Rob Stewart died of a diving accident off the Florida Keys. His family then finished Sharkwater Exctinction and released it in 2019.
