Tate Frederick Myre (January 1, 2005 - November 30, 2021) was an American boy who was killed in the Oxford High shooting while attempting to disarm the shooter.

Biography[]

Myre was born in 2005 in Rochester, Michigan. At the time of his death he was a junior at Oxford High School in Oxford Township.

In 2021, the 16-year-old Myre was a star running back at Oxford High. His hobbies included hanging out with his friends and going on an annual hunting trip with his father.

On November 30, 2021, Oxford High was attacked by an armed student named Ethan Crumbley. During the shooting, most of the students fled. When he realised what was going on, Myre charged Crumbley and attempted to disarm him. He was unsuccessful and shot repeatedly, but he managed to delay Crumbley long enough for other students to escape. Myre was rescued by police but died en route to the hospital.

After his death, a petition was started to rename the school's stadium after Myre. He was also posthumously given an honorary five-star rating by sports recruitment site 247Sports, and Detroit Lions player Jalen Elliott commemorated Myre during a December 5 game by wearing a jersey with his name on it.
